currently without insurance will be forced to buy the same overpriced insurance they couldn't
afford in the first place, or to have taxpayers subsidize the difference.

2012 and 2014 Election predictions

Prediction 2012

Republican Mitt Romney wins the Presidency. His campaign platform was healthcare reform. Romney told the nation God spoke to him and said “this is not a political issue, but a moral imperative.” He explained to the nation how he instituted health care reform in his state when he was Governor. He explained how some mistakes were made. He learned from those mistakes. What he learned was the answer would be single payer insurance. Single Payer in fact would not only insure everybody, but would take the costly burden of health care away from business and they could become competitive again. He explained that while yes, it would be paid by taxes, in fact families would still have more money to spend, as they would no longer have that huge bill to pay each month with their health insurance company. He has conservative politicians from Great Britain, France and Canada make speeches in the U.S about how well the plans work in their countries. He explains that in fact this is not socialism, but a public service just like our police, libraries, fire departments and roads. He explains the cost of transitioning will easily be covered by pulling out of “Obama’s Vietnam”. The single payer advocates that campaigned and voted for President Obama will help Mr. Romney get in office. The fringe right that screamed about “socialized medicine” will not say a word, because they never cared about healthcare reform in the first place, they were either noisy racists, or noisy Republican team players.

Prediction 2014

Single Payer health insurance revitalizes the economy. Without the burdensome cost of health insurance for its workforce, the U.S. car industry comes roaring back. Nationwide corporations that sent jobs overseas such as customer service call centers and software programmers, bring those jobs back to the U.S. workforce. The Democrats lose majority in both the house and the senate.

More 2012 predictions

During the run up to the Republican convention, Dick Cheney also running for President (his platform is nuke all countries that have oil including Canada) in an effort to make the Mormons look bad, hangs Glen Beck using Mormon undergarments, first in effigy and then for real. Cheney blames the Mormon Mafia. Jon Stewart and the comedians from the Daily Show ferret out the truth and Romney wins the nomination and election by a landslide.

Bill O’Rielly becomes a Democrat.

Keith Olbermann becomes a Republican.

Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner check into the Betty Ford center together to address their addiction to plastic surgery.

Sarah Palin designs a video arcade game where the participants shoot at Comrade Putin and Arctic wolves as they raise their commie heads up from behind a snow bank. The University of Idaho asks Ms. Palin to return her diploma.

Rachel Maddow becomes the head of the FCC resulting in Fox no longer being able to call themselves a “news” organization.

"Faith"

I don't understand economics. I am struggling to make sense of all the talking head chatter. It's probably wrong, but this is what I take away from it...The "bail out" means our taxes will create a well of money or "collateral" for the banks that loan money for small business loans and mortgage loans. Without credit for business expansion and housing our economy stalls. OK...I understand the problem so far. But...these same banks that must issue credit to keep our economy going, made bad investment choices in the last few years. We have to have "faith" with these same poor money managers to take our money and invest it wisely this time around. While most of America is happy to have "faith" in something unproven, I am not one of them.

I find it ironic that that the same banks that due to loan regulations had to turn me down for a conventional mortgage because I am self-employed and therefore "high risk", turned around and invested in "Packaged" Mortgage Securities made up from the "high risk" sub prime loans they are regulated against making. I realize the mortgage department and the investment department in a bank are different people, but come on...what a bunch of hypocritical dummies!

Seems like we are in a "catch 22" situation, The prices of homes on the West Coast and East Coast are still artificially inflated way beyond their actual value. If the bubble these home values are floating around in bursts, millions more homes will go into forclosure. Why would anyone make payments on a million dollar home loan on a house valued at $200,000.00? At the same time, it will be very risky to make new mortgage loans on homes whose value is still "artificially and unrealistically inflated". I would resent my tax dollars being used to collaterize these risky loans. Seems to me like the "bail out" would just be prolonging an inevitable housing market correction and putting good money after bad.

My thought processes must be flawed though, because following my logic would mean the real estate market would have to collapse on both coasts and become more in sync with middle America real estate values before our economy can recover and the bail out is just another scheme to move money from the working poor to the rich.

Hunting Witches and Demons

It has become clear to me that the people in charge of trying to win the election for Obama really are not in touch with Evangelical America. It amazes me that they do not understand they are strengthening the appeal of Sarah Palin by belaboring the story of Palin's pastor being a witch hunter and driving demons out of of the possessed woman in a village in Kenya. Belief in angels and demons is very real and very strong in evangelicals. When media and pundits try and paint this pastor as crazy, they are in essence calling all evangelicals crazy. I suppose this is where the idea stems with Evangelicals that Democrats are elitist and the Media has a Liberal bias.

A friend of mine has suggested I should try and have a conversation with my evangelical neighbors. Of course she is correct, dialog is key. My problem is that while I can understand what their beliefs are, and even respect that they are very important to them, I also think they are nuts. I don't have a poker face. Truth be told many evangelicals have been insensitive and disprespectful to my beliefs as well. I am not good at having conversations with others when I feel I am coming into the conversation from a defensive postition. I am certain that Evangelicals feel the same.

I had dinner at a friends house a few years back. It was a table of teachers and professors. A professor of English told me that without religion a person would be lacking in morals. She said One cannot possibly have morals without being a Christian. Really? That hurt my feelings. That begs the question...would a person without morals be capable of having feelings that can be hurt? That also begs the question...can we judge our own set of morals? I think my set of morals is pretty good...I attribute them to my parents, not to religion.

What I would most like to tell the evangelicals is that you and your faith are being exploited by the Neocons to win an election. Can't tell them that though, because then they think you consider them stupid. My morals make it uncomfortable for me to see anyone being exploited for nefarious reasons. But wait...I can't have morals because I don't have religion...

God has a lobbyist

We have all seen the Sarah Palin interview and now we know why they kept her away from the press for two weeks. She is a moron. Too bad that will not matter.

Pat Buchanon voiced what I suspected the other night on the Rachel Maddow show. It doesn't matter. Sarah Palin will be forgiven being a moron, they will forgive her lying, they will forgive her abuse of power, they will forgive her putting ambition ahead of family, they will forgive everything because she is "pro-life". He said nothing else matters. He meant it.

I don't understand this. The Christian nuts know Sarah Palin lied about the bridge and accepting earmarks, but they are certain she is not lying about being pro-life? What about their precious 10 commandments? Oh wait...I think Thous shall not tell a lie is 9 on the stone tablet of of religious imperatives authored by God. I think Thou shalt not have an abortion is number 6. I totally get it now. God must have dictated his commandments in the order of importance, so we must vote for McCain/Palin!

"Family Matters"

An organization called the "Family Council Action Committee" spearheaded the effort to have an initiative added to November's Ballot in Arkansas to ban unmarried couples living together from fostering or adopting children.

You can be single and foster or adopt children in Arkansas, and if this initiative passes, single people will not be affected. You just cannot have two adults living in the same home that are not married. (heterosexual or homosexual)

Last March previous to the movement to have the initiative placed on the ballot Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families released a dismal report on foster care in Arkansas which stated "The state is not doing all it can to find permanent homes for children in foster care" and further noted that "Over the past five years, nearly 1,000 children in foster care reached the age of 18 and left the system without ever being adopted into a permanent home, The number of children "aging out" of the system in fiscal year 2006 was 216, up from 180 five years earlier, the study showed.

David Cox is Executive Director of The Family Council Action Committee and states that "God has called me into this line of service" If you read through his website (David is also the webmaster and admits he has no staff at the moment) he freely explains that he is of course targeting homosexuals, and that by not defining "couple" as homo or hetero the initiative will hold up under court scrutiny because the wording does not discriminate (even though that is the initiative's intention)

WOW! This guy and his band of Christian Zealots think they are doing GOD's work by further limiting the number of available foster and adoptive homes in a state that already has a shortfall on foster and adoptive homes.

Religion is so mean. Use Jesus to Justify an action that both harms children and endorses intolerance.

Another Obama sign has been stolen from my yard. This makes two in two days. Our local newspaper, the News-Leader runs a little aside on the opinions page called "Roses" and "Thorns". A spot community members can send a quick message to any recipient that deserves either the sweet rose or the painful thorn. Over the last few weeks there have been many thorns sent to thieves stealing Obama yard signs. Not one mention though or a single thorn has been sent to thieves taking McCain signs. Ironic isn't it? The party that claims the moral majority is the party of thieves.

Another Irony; those signs are not free. Everytime a sign is stolen and replaced with another one, the thief has just added to Obama's campaign fund.

Soccer Moms - Nascar Daddies - Hunters

The base? Can someone please tell me who is the base for the democratic party? The Republicans have the Evangelicals. It's a great base to have since they vote as their pastor tells them to. No questions, total obedience, even if it means voting against their personal economic and social self-interest. With a voting block as solid as evangelicals the Republicans need only to find one other group to bring into the fold. In 2000 it was "soccer moms", in 2004 it was "Nascar Daddies". This year it is Hunters. That is the reason they keep reporting about Sarah Palin and her hunting, photos of her moose kill, and talk of her hunting wolves. Have they mentioned Moose are almost totally blind? Really; hunting moose...not sporting! Hunting wolves from an airplane....not sporting. But that is not the point here, while it might be a reflection of Sarah Palin's character, it has nothing to do with this blog.

So, what group of people make up the base of the Dems? Union and Trade workers? Nope, not only are they not the base, hardly any of them are left thanks to jobs union trade jobs being sent overseas, Liberals? Not really they are too independent to call one party home. The Dems have no base. They have no large block of people they can count on to vote for them regardless of their candidate.

Sarah Palin as Republican VP nominee has shored up the Evangelical base. Now bring in the hunters (which includes the Nascar Daddies) with homespun stories of Sarah's kills and I really think that the Republicans have won this race. What a disaster.

Palin won the Alaska Election by talking to hunters and she can win the Presidential election doing the same thing. During her gubanatorial campaign in 2006 Ms. Palin was asked by the Alaska state branch of the right-wing Eagle Forum if she was offended with the phrase "under god" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Her Response...."Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I'll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance"

Oh Sarah just how ignorant are you? Our nation's founding fathers never heard The Pledge of Allegiance. The Pledge was authored by Francis Bellamy about 100 years after the birth of our nation and of course the phrase "under God" was not inserted until 1954.

McCain is not the National Security Expert he Claims to Be

Major media reported their cute "human interest" story that John McCain did not know how to use a computer, had never sent or recieved an email and did not know how to surf the internet. This is not cute, this is serious news. This is a significant deficiency in John McCain's ability to keep the U.S. safe from foreign attacks.

"Colonel Gary McAlum, of the command's Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations, said "several Chinese advances had surprised U.S. defense and intelligence officials." McAlum cited a new report by Kevin Coleman of the Technolytics Institute, a consultancy based in McMurray, Pennsylvania, as saying China aims to achieve global "electronic dominance" by2050, including the ability to disrupt information infrastructures.

Cyberspace is the new battlefield. If John McCain's boasts are true he will keep our military and intelligence agencies busy dropping bombs in Iran and Russia, while the real threat, China is sneaking into the U.S. through Cyberspace. John McCain is an old warrior and an expert on dropping bombs. Unfortunately While dwelling on his sacrifice in a POW camp in a war fought long ago, The rest of the world has advanced and moved on providing more dangerous threats through a technology that he freely admits he cannot understand.

Age can not excuse this his lack of knowledge nor does age make it cute. We all know parents, grandparents and other seniors McCain's age or much older quite capable of these two most simple of computer skills.

Then again, maybe this is an age issue. I just watched the following video. Scary stuff. Senior Dementia? It's not pretty and I feel sorry for him, but woe is us if he becomes our President.

What is bad about ambition?

I guess I am a bit obsessed with this subject about Governor Palin.

I always admired people with ambition. When the Republican talking heads were trying to paint Obama as evil because he was ambitious, I could not follow their logic. It seemed doubly absurd since McCain wrote in his autobiography "In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president". I am giving their argument that ambition is evil a second thought. Governor Palin's, ambition to be the first woman vice president would be admirable were it not at the expense of her special needs baby.

Sure there is nothing wrong with being a working mom. I've already blogged about this. What just infuriates me is giving birth to a child with special needs, and chooosing purely for the sake of ambition to neglect that child during it's first most formative years.

It's sad when a child is neglected or abandoned because of circumstances out of control of the mom. Poverty, or health problems, dangerous environment can all lead to mom's doing the unthinkable and abandoning or neglecting their children. In a country though with a population of 300 million where a huge portion of that population is just as "qualified" as you are to be VP, and a few thousand are actually better qualified for the job, it can only be ambition that would cause you to choose the job over nurturing your special needs baby.

So it turns out the Republicans were right. Ambition can be ugly

Pro Life...what about Pro MOM?

Governor Palin claims this "Pro-life" stance. She has 5 children, the last one with Down Syndrome. Her family has money. Being Governor is time consuming. Being Vice President is even more time consuming. She chose to bring these children into this world, and now she is making a choice to accept a job whose job description means she will have to neglect them. I suppose being "pro-life" does not necessarily mean you are "pro-mom".

My daughter was cheated. I worked way too many hours when she was growing up. Being a single parent, I had to work two jobs always to keep us afloat. She was 13 when she told me that if I really loved her I would go on welfare so that I could spend more time with her. Of course she had a point, but she was also 13 and enjoyed arguing with me, and also what buttons to push. I hope she realized that if I had the money, I would have spent every minute with her she would have allowed me. I wasn't one of those parents that looked forward to summer ending and school starting. I hated it.

Working mothers is a necessary fact of life. Some woman like it, some resent it. I fell in the middle. I enjoyed working, but resented it when it took time away from being a mom.

For some fortunate woman working is an option - For Some unfortunate woman, abortion is a neccessity.

For those that espouse "Pro-Life Values" is seems hypocritical if the responsiblity for human life ends once the baby leaves the birth canal.

Jame's Dobson and Focus on the Family Action asked their evangelical followers to "Pray for Rain of Biblical Proportions" to disrupt the Democrat's convention. God's timing must be off. Hurricane Gustaf is going to answer their prayers of "rain of Biblical Proportions", just going to deliver it in time to disrupt the Republican convention. I would guess those living in the path wish you had not prayed so hard.

Drinking the Kool - Aid

You can't get away from the Democrat's convention. Every station is airing it. The nuts attending have all partaken of the Obama Kool-Aid. The fawning, the screaming, the hero worship. What is with human beings? Most follow with blind adoring passion a "chosen one". It is dangerous to use emotion rather than critical thinking skills, descriminatory tools, applied science, or logic to choose a leader. I know this and yet, when I watched Michelle Obama give her speech I was moved. I had shared the Kool-aid with all the nuts in that arena. Here's hoping the Obama Kool-aid stays sweet and clear.

The August 18 issue of our Local Newspaper featured a gut wrenching article about MSU graduate student Pang Jin. Pang is not from the U.S. she is from China. She is an only child. Her parents still live there. She called home to find the Chinese police had ransacked the family home, confiscated books and computers and had arrested her mom and aunt. Their crime? Practicing a religion called " Falun Gong" which incorporates a form of meditation that combines disciplined reading and slow, synchronized exercise. Those who practice it believe as one's virtue improves, physical health will improve, too.

On Aug 21st in the News-Leader under the Reader's Letters section, Jack Wright embarrassed himself and our community with his letter to the editor that stated this:
"To MSU graduate student Pang Jin: Please don't use your visit to the United States to involve us in your mother's problems with the government of China. Unless you're a U.S. citizen, you shouldn't expect us, at taxpayers' expense, to get involved with your personal problems when we have far greater problems with your communist homeland. Perhaps you should tell your parents to adhere to the policies of their country. They live there and life will be much better for them if they forget the cult activities. Life isn't perfect, governments aren't perfect, and the sooner you and your parents accept this the happier you will all be."

I have so many things I could say to Mean Spirited Jack, based on Civil Liberties, Human Rights, the principles this country and our constitution were built on....Oh yeah, this post could be long, but yet somehow I doubt Jack would understand my arguments. Suffice it to say, it is ironic that Jack could write such a hate filled, ignorant letter and yet, it gets published because Jack was lucky enough to be born in a country that allows freedom of speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom to be a moron and does not censor.
